Downland Garden Homes
The proposed materials palette is comprised of black / charred timber cladding with expressed frame elements, corrugated metal roof and trims, and natural / untreated timber cladding on lower levels. These materials are sustainable, low maintenance, cost effective, and reflective of the verdant character of the site.
The appearance is modern but modest, adopting neutral tones which naturally ground into the site.
Three new family homes on a suburban, wooded garden site.
A landscape-led design approach takes care to retain the verdant character of the site - protecting mature, high quality trees - and balances biodiversity with viable development opportunity.
Proposed site layout protects neighbouring amenity and responds to neighbourhood character by retaining the established street building line and following the pattern of two recently approved garden developments on the same street.
Landscape proposals centre around a dedicated biodiversity zone in the centre of the site. This area will be planted with native scrub and woodland undergrowth species according to the light levels received. An existing pond is retained and improved for biodiversity.
